How to do anything. “WHY”.

Here is a 2 minute speech I wrote and will be presenting at 2 x local Toastmasters I attend.

It’s about why the fuck you need a strong “WHY”.

————————————–

You can do anything if your WHY is strong enough.

I don’t always like pushing myself.

I don’t always like stepping out of my comfort zone.

And I don’t always like trying to do things I don’t yet know how to do.

-pause-

But, I do always want to improve my life.

And I do always want to become more self-confident and self-reliant.

And I damn sure do always want to become a true master of my crafts.

-pause-

My friend told me the other day that he can’t do cold showers because he’s wog and that wogs apparently don’t do the cold…

So, I told him that if I had a gun to his girlfriend’s head and I told him that I was going to kill her unless he has a cold shower I bet he would.

-pause-

And I bet you would too.

-pause-

You see, it’s all about the WHY…

-pause-

If you have a strong WHY, you’re inspired.

If you have a strong WHY, you’re motivated.

If you have a weak WHY, you will crumble.

If you have a weak WHY, you won’t put the effort in.

Who are you doing this for, why are you doing it, where are you going and most importantly WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT!

You have to train yourself.

You have to train yourself to think more about what you want rather than what you have to do to get it.

If people truly knew how much work they would have to do to become a doctor, do you think they might give up before they start?.

If you knew how much work having children would be, do you think you might not have had them?

If you knew the amount of effort you had to put in to save a deposit to buy your own home, do you think you might have just kept on renting?

I’m not asking you to not consider the road ahead.

I’m just asking you to consider your WHY more!

Because when times get tough…

And the chips are down.

And you’re feeling scared, lazy… or stuck in a freezing cold shower…

The WHY is what gets you through.

The WHY is what picks you up by the bootstraps.

The WHY is what tells you to keep moving forward even though you can’t see where the hell you’re going!

Martin Luther King had a strong WHY?

Nelson Mandela had a strong WHY?

Mother Teresa had a strong WHY?

Do you?

Does living with no expectation really make you happier?

Does living with no expectation really make you happier?

I am a doer, I’m a maker, creator and a shaker.

I have been trying to control my environment with the use of the Law of Attraction.

Has this unknowingly been making me upset though?

I have felt really up and down for the last 2 x months.

I have gone really high, but more so sat very low.

Have I put expectations on an environment that perhaps I cannot/should not totally control?

Yesterday, I was reminded of the idea that…

Life is happening for me…

NOT TO ME.

Let me say that again, life is not happening to me, it is happening FOR me 😊.

“Ahhh, feeling better”.

I am a teacher, I am a lover, I am a helper, I am an uplifter.

That is my ecstasy.

Helping others with my advice.

That is why I was put here, that is my purpose.

I absolutely LOVE helping people with problems 😊 .

I need to accept that I have been sent into a dark world so that I can become more skilled at performing my passion.

I am in training.

Life is actually happening for me.

No more expectations.

Let life happen.

Accept everything and find the good in it.

How can I help someone in a dark place if I have never been there before?

How?

How can an electrician teach an apprentice the know how about electricity if they have never worked with electricity themselves?

Life is happening for me and I feel good about it.

If anyone is on the same playing field as me, here is the Tony Robbins video that has taught me so much and pulled me out of my resistant funk.

Oh and don’t forget to go after your passion.

As soon as I realised I was being challenged so that I could get better at helping people I immediately began answering people’s self-help questions on Quora.

AND GOD DID I FEEL GOOD.

Back where I belong – uplifting.

Hello old friend 😊

Love you all.

Momentum

Momentum is possibly the most underestimated facet in regard to self-help.

People don’t realise the power of momentum.

Hell, I didn’t realise the power of momentum until recently.

Momentum can build you up and it can also break you down.

You definitely have to respect momentum and if you want to get to the places you want to be you need to learn how to use it.

If I’m down I use momentum to bring me back up.

If I’m super low I start real low.

Easy little pieces of momentum.

Little pieces that aren’t pushy and don’t exhaust.

Little pieces that don’t feel tiring.

Such as the thought…

“I don’t have to figure this all out right now”.

Super light. Super easy. Non-subjective. Non-pushy.

Nice and easy.

That small feeling of relief you can create with a single low-lying thought will attract more positive thoughts.

It is law, it is law of attraction.

You can try it yourself.

Think of something you love.

And watch how a lot of other positive thoughts will start to arise and flock about your mind.

Positive attracts positive and negative attracts negative.

One easy low-lying thought of momentum can really start to get the car rolling down hill, instead of the car trying to roll up hill.

Sometimes a low-lying thought can be too hard to reach because you are just too low.

In times like this.

Be quiet.

Stop thinking.

Try to focus and be in the moment of what you are doing.

Or go for a nap.

A nap will slow momentum.

Sleep is good for you when you feel stressed.

It will reset your clock.

You are not lazy for sleeping.

You are strategic because you know that if you are to perform you need to be in the right state of mind.

And sometimes sleep can help get you there.

Everything flows easy when you are easy.

Use momentum.

Start low and work your way up.

If it feels hard, don’t do it.

If it feels easy and light go with it.

Start low and keep going.

Sooner or later you will be high.

Sky high.

The Importance of Staying Present

Yesterday I was reminded of the importance of staying in the moment.

I think I had been spending a lot of time with the voice in my head.

Too much time.

Today I want you to try staying in the moment.

Feel the seat on your ass, your feet on the floor, the wind brush your face, the touch of your hand to your internet device.

There is no fear or regret when you are in the moment.

It is impossible to feel fear of the future and regret of the past when you are in the moment.

Try to keep the voice in your head quiet and be like a dog.

You don’t see your dog worrying to much do you?

The dog is always present.

Always.

The dog lives in the moment and totally drinks in all experience, like most (if not all) other animals.

Meditation can help with this practice.

Try meditation today if you have not done it before.

5 minutes of quiet time listening and feeling the in-and-out flow of your breath with your eyes closed.

If you lose your focus, go back to breath.

Do not get angry if you lose focus, you may have never tried this before, go back to the breath and try to quite your mind.

Know that losing focus, IS a part of meditation and that each time you regain focus, you increase your ability to stay mindful of your thoughts.

There are gyms for lifting weights and there are gyms for strengthening your mind.

This is one of them.

Be quiet and just feel today.

PS. Here is the podcast I listened to yesterday that reminded me the importance of staying present. IT HAS GREAT INCITE IF YOU ARE NEW TO MEDITATION.

http://lewishowes.com/podcast/dan-harris/ (Can be found on iTunes podcast and Sticher for Android).

PPS. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT MEDIATION, “am I doing this right?”, do not hesitate to comment below and I will get back to you, if you are very stuck, we can Skype.

Perfectionism

Don’t be a perfectionist.

Perfectionists never get anything done..

Simply because they’re trying to make everything… perfect.

Being a perfectionist will hold you back.

I need to become less of a perfectionist.

People that are the opposite of perfectionists generally have more fun.

What they say is.. good enough.

What they look like is.. good enough.

and the work they put out is generally.. good enough.

It sounds like a fun way to live.

Get your hands dirty and learn and improve along the way.

No one’s paying to see a man in the crowd, they’re paying to see the man in the arena.

So get the fuck up, get dirty and put something out there…

Because there will never be a perfect time.
